it's been a while since i last blogged anything. i've taken a hiatus from wedding planning after getting pretty much all of my planning done.
right now i have only a few things left to book. need to do hair/make-up and find a florist for bouquets and boutonnieres and have my brother confirm for the dj.
i also have to take marriage classes. i had tried getting in touch with the priest a few months back and he never got back to me. so now i have to try again but the classes don't start up again until the fall. which completely blows cause the days will be shorter (sun will go down earlier) and it will be cooler (not my favourite in terms of weather). it's just more of a hassel to as school is starting back up again and it's just a busy time.
this weekend alan and i will be making more centrepieces and alan will be making our cake topper. hopefully it'll turn out all right! ^-^ i'll take a picture when it's all done to show the final product!

007 // shoes, shoes, shoes!
it's march!
time has flown by since december and i have accomplished so much in such a short period of time. i guess a wedding can be planned within 2 months (except the bride would probably blow a fuse in the process)!
I also decided that when my feet get tired, i'm going to want to take these puppies off and wear something a little more comfortable! so i also happend to stumble upon a pair of cute purple flip flops and purchased those suckers as well! now i have my matching flip flops! not only are these pumps and flops decently priced, but they're also cute enough to wear for other future outtings that I can't wait till my wedding is done so that I can wear them again!!! ^-^

this past weekend i visited david's bridal as it just opened in canada this past thursday. i had looked at their website and i had seen a pair of peep toe shoes with the cutest little bow on them... and not only were they purple... but they were also CHEAP! woo hoo!

006 // place-cards
so i went to dollarama and found butterflies (finally). so tomorrow i'll be heading over with the mister to buy the rest that i need.
below you'll find a picture of the finished product (i know i already posted a picture, but i'm not using the orange butterfly and i wrote the name on this one). i've blurred the name out though for privacy reasons. ta da!

005 // no one's got it all
you know what's the hardest part of planning?
having all of these ideas and then when you try to implement them it becomes a task and a half because finding the materials in your area is ridiculous!
i've been looking for purple cardstock and have been having trouble doing so. you'd think that a popular colour like (dark plum) purple would be easy to find. it's a pretty in demand colour i would think! but apparently not. the only cardstock of purple i can find is pastel lavendar/violet coloured purple and when i finally do find the colour i'm looking for, it's part of a combo pack that has other useless colours and only 10 sheets of the purple and they want upwards of $30 for it. *sighz*
why do they like making it hard for people in canada to find materials? and companies being dumb and only shipping within the us. there's a fantastic site that i would buy a gazillion items from, but alas, it only ships within the us and leaves me stuck with having to scrounge around trying to find items here (and without any luck sometimes, crushing dreams!).
anyway. i'm going to try visiting a store called paperland today and see if they have any purple cardstock that i can purchase. they open at 10am *boo* but this week i'm doing lunches at work so i'll have to go back in about an hour... so i'll have to try and visit the place after and then make it back for my afternoon shift. blah. let's just hope they have what i'm looking for and will sell me my cardstock!!

004 // I could stick around and get along with you
so i've been very busy this past week. as i've written in my last post, i've been focusing on my placecards, but i seem to have trouble finding decent butterflies. i went to michael's and was quite disappointed in their selection. they have quite beautiful birds though, their butterflies... meh. so the search will continue. I'll have to go back to dollarama and see if i can find anything. especially since spring is fast approaching, you'd think you'd be seeing a ton of butterflies, but i guess not!
on the other hand, i have just finished my save the date templates. at first i was going to make save the date shaker cards. then after some thought i decided that magnets would be the better bet. not only will they go up on the fridge, but they'll be a constant reminder! ^-^ so i just finished making the template and am quite happy with the outcome. the only thing i'm waiting for now is for our engagement shoot which will happen sometime in june. after that i will have a decent picture that i can use for them! for now i just have a photo that we took at my work christmas party. I removed our last names and website for privacy purposes. i think they turned out quite well! ^-^

003 // the fabric of your flesh, pure as a wedding dress
so i had mentioned in my previous post that i had made a mockup of my placecards. that day i went to purchase the veneer maple cards that i am going to write everyone's name on and i punched out the flower to make sure that i would be able to do so (as i have about 160 to make!). my first attempt went horribly. the flower was mangled and the wood split. i realized that i had punched too close to the side. so I moved it over a bit and voila! perfection.
but now i have to figure out what pen i will be using to write everyone's names. I tested out a pilot fineliner... it works, but it's not dark enough and it would take forever as i would have to shade everything in to give it that calligrapher's look.
so i tried a sharpie fine point permanent marker and that bled into the wood. so that's a definite no. next i tried a sharpie pen. that seems to work the best. the only problem is that i would still need to go over my writing a few times to make it look the way i want. maybe i'll see if i can find something else, but right now, that seems to be my best bet.
anyway. i still need to buy some nice butterflies to use. right now i'm just using one that i had around the house. it works, but i'm not too fond of the orange colour. my colours are a plum purple and a red (like a pommagranite red). it'll be too expensive to buy just those 2 colours, so i'll have to get different ones. but i want to find decent looking butterflies as well. hopefully i'll find something to my liking! ^-^
in the mean time. enjoy!

002 // and when you kiss me i'm happy enough
so yesterday i made a mock up of my place cards and i am extremely happy with the way it turned out! my dad has given his approval. he was a little skeptical at first when i was describing to him what my idea was. After showing him my example though, he was thoroughly impressed with my work!
since i really got the ball rolling with my ideas and plans i have become an indecisive queen. everything that i had originally planned i have changed probably 3 times. i find that every idea i have isn't good enough and that there could be something better i could do. not even the reassurance from my fiancee can help.
but i think i have found my balance. after much debate and thinking, when i truly have no doubts about an idea and i feel pretty darned good about it, that's when i know that it's the idea for me. i no longer feel stressed if i've chosen the right thing or not, i just feel amazing thinking about making it and the looks on my guests faces as they experience something completely different.
for now i feel content with my place-cards. i am actually heading to the store to purchase another element for them. yes, i was not content with the same old boring paper placecard. i wanted "umph!" and well. I created something truly unique! it is possible to do, even on a tight budget! just use your imagination and it will come to you. oh, and google helps too! ;)
